ECU Scholarships

Applying for Scholarships

East Carolina University has a variety of scholarships available to incoming freshmen, transfer students, and existing students. Both incoming and existing students apply for university scholarships through our online application portal, ECUAWard. ECU does not automatically award any merit scholarships, all scholarships must be applied for through ECUAWard.

Applicants will use their ECU credentials (Pirate ID and password) to gain access to the general scholarship application and a variety of conditional applications and “apply to” opportunities that may display on their student scholarship dashboard. Incoming students must first be admitted to the university, and then set up their Pirate ID and password to access the portal.

University scholarship application deadlines vary by program, but many scholarships have an application deadline of January 15.

Scholarship Criteria

Scholarships are offered each academic year and the funds are typically spread across the academic year with 50% of the award paid in the fall semester and 50% paid in the spring semester.

Most scholarships have specific eligibility criteria which may range from something as simple as being from a specific county or geographical region to being an active volunteer with a certain service group. Others will have specific grade point average (GPA) and/or test score requirements and may contain a requirement for demonstrated financial need.

Please review the descriptions of each opportunity listed on ECUAWard to determine whether your application meets the specific requirements. All scholarships are subject to the availability of funds.

College & Departmental Scholarship Information

There are many scholarships offered by the various colleges and departments at ECU. It is a good practice to always check the ECU webpage specific to your major (a departmental webpage) or your school/college (the area where your major is housed) for additional scholarship information. Scholarships offered by ECU departments or colleges will be applied for through the ECUAWard scholarship portal.

Departmental and college websites may also have helpful information about external scholarship opportunities for the students within their majors. When researching these external opportunities, questions can always be directed to the Office of University Scholarships at scholarships@ecu.edu.
